All Approved Driving Instructors and Approved Motorcycle Instructors
I am writing to you with an update on the latest Covid-19 restrictions and how they affect driving instruction and driver testing.
Last night the Executive announced a further two-week circuit breaker, extending the current Covid-19 Regulations in line with scientific and medical advice to protect our health and safety. The restrictions extend the closure of close contact services and activities, including driving instruction, from Friday 27 November until Friday 11 December when they can re-open on an appointment basis.
In light of this decision, all driving tests, apart from motorcycle tests, scheduled to take place from 27 November to 10 December inclusive, will now be cancelled, and their test fees refunded as quickly as possible. If you are aware that your pupils are scheduled to have a driving test between 27 November and 10 December, then we would ask you to make them aware of the latest position as well.
Driving tests scheduled to take place from 21 November to 26 November inclusive, will go ahead as planned.
Online Booking for Practical Driving Tests
Any customers who have already been given priority access to the booking system from 9 November will continue to have access now to rebook their driving test. These are customers who were previously identified as key workers or who had their driving test cancelled from late March to the end of June and again between 16 October and 20 November. If they have rebooked and their new test is between 27 November and 10 December, they will now have continued priority access to the booking system.
From Monday, 23 November, we will open the booking system to anyone else who had their test cancelled from 16 October to 20 November.
For the time being, only these customers will be able to book a test as their details are flagged on our system, so I would ask you to help us manage demand and dissuade anyone else from attempting to book a test, it will only slow the process for those with legitimate access to the system.
We’ll let you know as soon as possible about the next stage of reopening the booking system.
Theory tests scheduled to take place between 27 November and 10 December will also be suspended. We’re letting affected customers know, and will tell them how to reschedule or rebook their appointment.
I hope you find this helpful, but please contact me or any member of the BSU team should you require any further clarification."
